Brief History & Background for its Establishment:

     The Department of Culture is looking for preserving, protecting and promoting the rich Cultural heritage of the State. Since its inception, the Department of Culture have made unlimited efforts for over-all promotion of Orissan Art and Culture with its limited resources. The Government in its Resolution No.26715 dtd.9.11.2006 have pleased to order for merger of the Directorate of Culture with Department of Culture in order to  achieve the aim behind such merger and to ensure greater efficiency and speedier disposal of Govt. work in the wake of the increasing work load projected before the Culture Department.

State Library runs the public Library in two shifts i.e. from 8.00A.M. to 2.00P.M. and 2.00P.M. to 8.00P.M. of each working day. Monday is the Weekly holiday for the State library and Orissa State Museum.
