Particulars of Organization, Functions & Duties

Aims and Objectives of the Organisation:

    The main aim and objective of this organization is the inspection and monitoring of works of Rengali Right Bank Canal from RD 00 to 39.713 Km. and its implementation by 2009-10. Apart from the above, maintenance and extension of existing Medium Irrigation Projects, namely, Aunli Irrigation Project, Dejang Irrigation Project, Dadaraghati Irrigation Project, Ramial Irrigation Project is under the control of this organization. The ongoing Manjore Medium Irrigation Project is also under the control of this organization. It also monitors flood protection works of Angul and Dhenkanal District.

Mission/Vision:

     To provide irrigation to an area of 5060 ha through Rengali Right Bank Canal (from RD 00 to 39.713 Km) and 29633 ha through exiting and ongoing different Medium Irrigation Projects of this organization.

Brief History and back ground for its establishment:

   Office of the Superintending Engineer, Angul Irrigation Circle, Angul has been created vide Department of Water Resources order no. 43236 dated 8.12.1997 by way of redeployment of one circle from Potteru Irrigation Project and started functioning with effect from 01.01.1998.

    In the above administrative setup, the business of the project is allocated in the following manner:

     The Superintending Engineer exercises his powers as per relevant code and superintendence over four divisions (as per organization chart) in matters of works and establishment of the Circle. The executions of works are mainly executed by the Executive Engineers, Assistant Engineers and Junior Engineers in-charge of the works.

Duties to be performed to achieve the mission:

   To carry out the survey & investigation, Design and planning of different project components, Acquisition of Government, Private and Forest land for project implementation, Rehabilitation of Project affected people, Monitoring of progress of work in new projects/schemes. Maintenance of existing projects, preparation of estimates along with preparation, floating and acceptance of tender for execution of the work. Delineation of Pani panchayat area by notification & conducting election of Pani Panchayat.

Details of services rendered:

    Implementation and maintenance of the Major and Medium Irrigation Projects including their distribution system to provide irrigation facilities to the area coming under Brahmani Right Basin in the districts of Angul and Dhenkanal.
