Particulars of Organization, Functions & Duties

1. Aims and Objectives of the Organization:
Zilla Parishad, Kendrapara is the apex body under 3 tire PRI system in the District with the objective of (Zilla Parishad Act, 1991)
i) Preparing plans for Economic Development and Social Justice.ii) Undertake Schemes or Adopt Measures for Welfare and other objects of General Public Utility.iii) Preparation, Execution and Monitoring of the District plan.
DRDA is primarily created as a Specialized Agency to implement Poverty Alleviation Programmes at field level. Its aim is to utilize scare resources in a optimal manner for Eradication of Rural Poverty.

3. Brief history and background for its establishment:
DRDAs were created during early 80s as Special Agency to implement IRDP on Oct' 02, 1980. Before that a number of rural employment programmes were implemented through different Govt. Deptts. After creation of DRDA all the poverty alleviation programmes was entrusted to DRDA. It was established under Societies Registration Act to ensure autonomy and independent identity.
DRDA, Kendrapara came in to existence on 5.8.93 after Bifurcation of DRDA, Cuttack.

5. Allocation of Business:
Implementation of Rural Employment and Poverty Alleviation Programmes like NREGS, GGY, SGSY, IAY, MOKUDIA, 12th FCA and others.
6. Duties to be performed to achieve the Mission:
Planning, Execution and Monitoring of different programmes mainly Self Employment, Wage Employment of Rural Housing.
7. Details of Services rendered:
Provision of Self-Employment & Housing to BPL families and Wage-Employment to Rural Poors.
8. Citizens' Interaction:
Citizens' Interaction is through Peoples' representative as well as through Palli Sabha & Gram Sabha.
